Development for Beginners

by Julie Winters

If you tell anyone outside of the entertainment industry that you "work in development," they will most likely fall silent and stare at you as if they are having trouble passing gas. The term "development," and more specifically your title of "d-person" (short for development-person), is designed to be vague in order to encompass the myriad of things you will have to do and for which ultimately you will get no credit. These things include tracking, trading, networking, reading, reading and reading, among many other things. This section is designed to help you understand how to become a successful d-person (and for those of you with gastro-intestinal problems, what development actually is) and to climb your way up what we call the "D-Pyramid."
